Wassup! My name is Erick Tiburcio and I run a show on KWUR 90.3 FM (Underground radio station at Washington University in St. Louis) called JACKPOT! where I curate playlists for my lovely listeners and give attention to lesser-known music. Mimi has graced me with space on her website do have my own segment where I just kinda put out blog posts detailing things I did during the past week, or R.E.P.O.R.T (acronym explained in the category home screen). I’ll keep these relatively short unless I have very strong feelings about something. This is the first upload and is for the week of April 1st to April 8th!

Reading – Environmental News?

If I am going to be honest I have not been reading books recently. To at least fit something into this part I’ll mention the different articles that I’ve recently read, most of them being related to the environment;

Since I don’t have cable and am fully a student, I have to go out my way to read the news and stay in touch with what’s going on in the world. I read the news whenever I’m at work to just pass the time and these are what I came across, the first article is particularly upsetting but thats the reality of the world right now.

Eating – Korean and Creole

I like it when I have the money to go off-campus and get food instead of having to go to our dining halls all the time and I managed to do that last week. I had two standout meals last week, the first was at U-City Grill in the Loop and goodnesssss. The spot is cheap and it’s good. It’s simple: just rice, bulgogi beef, and bean sprouts, all for $7 ($9 for real if you count tax, but thats still lunch fo rless than 10 bucks). The second was from the Cajun Sensation food tuck that came to our campus and man oh man will you never fail to see me in line whenever cajun food trucks come here. It had fries, shrimp, fried salmon, and catfish (TRIPLE COMBOOO), 9/10 not a fan of catfish.

Playing – Slay the Spire and Wild Rift

Playing video games is the hobby that invest the majority of my time into; I’m always gaming. I usually am playing multiple different games at a siad time and this past week is the same but I’ll just focus on what I’ve been playing most. The one game that keeps my screen time up is Wild Rift (League of Legends). I’ve been duo queuing and ranking up QUICK (shoutout Abdel), I am now Emerald III when I was just Platinum III at the end of spring break. Slay the Spire is a rouguelike so it’s easy for me to simply hop on and play for around 40 minutes, then just save, quit, and dip. I had a really successful Ironclad run the other day with a ridiculous block engine.

Observing – Physical 100 and Fairy Tail

I have been watching Physical 100 with my girlfriend and I’m loving it. Season 1 was great and they have challenges that are just as good in Season 2. Unfortunately, we only have 2 episodes left but we will probably rewatch House of the Dragon afterwards. Other than that, I started rewatching Fairy Tail about 2 weeks ago. It was my first ever long anime that I finished back in 7th grade and I just kinda wanted to revisit the series. Its super fun and I don’t remember the early seasons being this comedic but I’m currently on episode 34 and binging pretty fast.

Recommending – Fly With The Wind by McCoy Tyner

Spectacular album. I have plenty of jazz albums saved in my library right now since my daylists have provided me with so many recommendations and this stunned me. McCoy Tyner is amazing and I plan on getting around to the work of others from the John Coltrane Quartet. Favorite listen of the month so far, please give it a listen. The album cover is just as nice as the entire record.

Thoughts

I had a busier-than-usual week but things still were pretty solid. I had a wine night with friends on Friday night and watched the Iowa vs. UConn game, it was good vibes to start the weekend on. Saturday was a maintenance and self-care day, I needed to take some time to deep clean my room and organize myself a bit. Recently I’ve been thinking about the lack of films in my media consumption right now, at least in a recreational sense. I just watched Moonlight for the first time (ik, ik) for my Black Masculinities class and it was a great movie. I want to attempt to watch all entires in the Godzilla franchise before the summer ends so that’s really what I’ve been thinking about.

Overall, it was a decent week. Workload was a bit on the heavier side but I made time for myself to live life. That’s all for now, thank you for reading! I’ll be back next week with more recommendations and new obsessions.
