This is not the first Rebecca Serle book I’ve read, and they were all exceptional, and must I say that this book was no exception. This book felt like I was walking right beside our main character, Katy Silver, down the beautiful streets of Italy. This book begins with Katy, overwhelmed with grief from the loss of her mother, Carol, feeling detached and untethered to anything in her life. Soon after her mother’s passing, she is reminded of a two-week trip to Italy they were supposed to take together, which she decides to embark on alone. She runs away to Italy in an attempt to escape her grief while simultaneously trying to find anything that can connect her to her mother. She arrives in Italy and walks the same streets her mother did thirty years ago. She stares at the itinerary, wishing she had her mother with her as her guide. Then the impossible occurs, and she bumps into the thirty-year-old version of her now-deceased mother. She befriends this version of her mother who helps her rediscover who she is, the things she loves, and who she loves. She must navigate the loss of her mother, while trying to find her way back to herself, all while the past version of her mother is right infront of her. She can see her, touch her, smell her, but she understood this version of her no longer existed. Rebecca Serle always does an amazing job of immersing her audience in the plot. I felt Katy’s emotions: her confusion, grief, anger, feeling of being lost. Katy was relatable and was a lot more enjoyable to read than she gives herself credit for. This novel shows how the bond of a mother and daughter is unbreakable and defies the bounds of time. Katy always felt like her mother was teaching her, but on this trip Katy was teaching Carol. This book made me tear up on several occasions, and I can not recomend this book more. It will make you want to take a flight to Italy and to give your mother a huge hug. Not to mention, this book is such an easy read and so light-hearted and uplifting. This is the perfect book to pick up this Spring. Overall, I rate this book a 10/10 and I highly recommend this book and any other Rebecca Serle novel!
